From the pantheon of Norse mythology, Freya is one of the most well known goddesses. While commonly associated with fertility, sex and beauty she is often presented as unashamed and comfortable with her sexuality.
Yet her association with sex did not mean she was not powerful. She also practiced seiðr magic which was known only to her kind. The aurora borealis is said to be a manifestation of this magic as she weaves the strands of fate for all of the world.
The most elite warriors who fell in battle were chosen by Freya’s valkyries to join her hall, Sessrúmnir while the rest would travel to Valhalla with Odin.
