REGION: Ireland
The Morrígan is a triple goddess from Irish Celtic mythology - triplets being common motif throughout Celtic myths. She often appears as three women but is considered one entity who went by many names. She is a deity of death, war and fate but also a manifestation of protection of the earth. She could change the outcomes of war by either instilling fear or courage in those fighting. She was a known shapeshifter and often appeared as a raven. However, despite her associations with war and violence she served to keep the land fertile and balance nature’s equilibrium of life and death.
